This is the 3rd trip I'm going to Enterprise 3 barge, and 2nd time to offshore. Actually this is considered the best project for me because all installation analysis done by me, and also a lot of activities happened during the construction.I had given a task from OCS to become a field engineer and at the same time need to achieve some calculation on board in case any other installation problem happen.
For this job, I've taken a chance to see all the installation method that I analyze in the office like bowstring start-up, pipelay, abandonment, sidewalk, pipeline lifting analysis and pre-commisioning works. In addition, acting as a field engineer bring me to the new journey of offshore construction environment, start from scratch until the pipeline ready for production.
The best thing is, knowlegde in pipeline installation analysis give me fastest way to understand and realize what we are doing and at the same time self defence from all question about pipeline design and installation. About the barge, previous trip plus mobilization work that I involved for Enterprise 3 shows me the equipment and consideration that taken into account to produce the pipelay barge.

Salam..
Im graduated in Mech Engineering major in petroleum and materials
Currently Im working in Sime Darby Plantation.
Sy pnye scope of work more onto establish SOP, Maintenance Plan but to the pilot plant.
Im not really into it.
And last week i got offered from Petrokon Utama Sdn Bhd Engineering as Mech Engineer. As u know it is a engineering consultant in oil and gas industry.
I have made my decision to choose PUSB rather than sime darby because my field of interest even though the offer not really lumayan. But i will be bonded to the company for 4 yrs after confirmation.
I have decided to go to the PUSB to gain as many knowledge before i step up to the big company.
Another i will have an interview with mach3engineering as jr corrosion engineer.
So i would like to seek your opinion regarding :
1) The choices that i been made to go to PUSB
2) About corrosion engineer and mechanical engineer ( for your info i am dreaming to work in offshore ). I love corrosion and materials but the same time i love facilities engineering.
Hi Irfan,
For your 1st question:
You can gain your experience a lot if you become a part of Petrokon
because that company is one of the biggest company in Brunei and other than that is Damit Worley. I've done some project with them before. Apart from that, working in overseas gave you extra step to learn something new in terms of working ethics.
One thing I said, please do not considered to much of salary at the first stage of your carreer,
because money will come later once you have an experience. But make sure you read all the bonded terms and conditions before you sign the offer.
For your 2nd question:
I've a friends working as a Senior Corrosion Engineer in Lloyd Register and Shell Global Solution (SGS). I'll get some information from them about the corrosion.
I'm also has doing some corrosion work when I in JPKenny before. Actually in corrosion you need to understand input of doing the corrosion check like corrosion inhibitor, pH and etc.
There have a lot of areas working in Oil and Gas, which is in office based position till offshore position. For Offshore position, maybe you can find it in my latest post -Field Engineer vs Pipeline Engineer-.

asri,
thnk u very much with your beneficial comment..
By the way as u comment above, i totally agreed with you..working in overseas give you valuable experience esp how to deal with multi kind of people..
talking about the boning agreement..i was thinking that 4 yrs bonded term as a learning period for me to learn and gain lot of experience...
but talking about the position itself..as i said earlier i love corrosion and at the same time i love facilities engineering..but in my opinion if i go to corrosion engineer..i going to specialise only in one field but if i go to mechanical engineer there have a lot for me to learn...
what do u say?
hi irfan,
I'm agreed as what you said. Actually to become a Mechanical Engineer doesn't mean you can't pursue your dream. At least you can learn step by step the offshore facilities and once yoou have good experience then can join management tema and finally becoming Project Manager (much more better right?)
Other than that, maybe you will have some chance to learn Pipeline, Structures and Electrical.
