I've been given a task by Enterprise 3 OCS for going to offshore KUMANG monitorized 28in KAKG-A to MLNG-2 pipeline lay & recovery @50m WD. It's a good experience step where I've been exposed for laying a bigger and heavier pipeline.
At the first day on board, I am setup the stinger rollers and collected some information about the rollers condition for reporting purposes to office. The next day, Enterprise 3 is towing from kp 186 nearshore to KP104 at offshore for recovery the 28in pipeline and the journey takes 10hours. Once the barge ready at the location, anchors have been deploy with respect to the pattern done by field engineer.

For this job, pipeline analysis is done by me, and as per OFFPIPE shows the marginal stresses which is almost to allowable stresses, where further details are monitorized to aviod from pipeline buckle. But, everything just follow the plan and 28in pipeline is recovered during day shift.

Bro,
Is it true that offshore pipeline installation company like to hire pipeline enginers from design consultant?
What is the rotation schedule like? How many months on the vessel and how many back onshore?
Thank You.
hye bro,
Yes, because you have a knowledge in design. But to familiarize in installation, better you stay in design for about 3 years plus.
As a pipeline engineer in OIC, you're not offshore based, no rotation schedule but you'll going as requested by OCS (Offshore Construction Superintendent).
Pipeline engineer scope of works are doing installation analysis, create a solution for the installation problem, and standby for any ad hock problem comes from offshore.

Thanks bro,
So, what do pipeline engineers in OIC do when they go offshore?
Perform analysis using OFFPIPE on the lay barge?
Hye bro,
When I'm going offshore, I'm doing some field engineer work. Other than that, performing Offpipe onboard if any other problem ad hock happened and need to be solve by engineering analysis.
It's look easy but to be a pipeline engineer in OIC, we must well prepared and familiarize offpipe a lot so that anything problem coming would be smooth solve.
Thnks bro,
Now I'm clear what you guys do on the vessel..great!
Hmm,i'm using MCS PipeLay now for installation analysis in the office. Not have the chance to try OFFPIPE yet.
Chill.
Hye bro,
Nevmind, MCS pipelay also same which is pipeline installation software.
Myself in TLO using Offpipe due to part of client requirement. It's quite complicated compared to MCS pipelay.
But, if you or your company wants to learn about Offpipe, you can set the suitable date and once confirm please email it to me at :

Thanks for the information.
Actually my company also use OFFPIPE most of the time but this client request for MCS Pipelay.
Is it true that TLO also changing to MCS very soon?
Hi bro,
thanks for your reply.
Actually we all in TLO already review the MCS Pipelay. But, unluckily still can't apply in our work. To explain about installation engineering is a lot actually, but we are already advise them to improve their software. As far as I seen is their software applicable for deepwater installation. Maybe soon if improve then we will change it.
Other than that, currently our client only requires us for using OFFPIPE instead of MCS.
